Pinelands was a pleasant surprise. Never to be confused with a up-scale course, this bargain price course is fairly layout, lots of tight tree lines fairways, nice par threes, and some short par fours that requires some though at the tee box. Some of the more expensive up scale courses (don’t get me wrong, I love them too) are set up to satisfy the big dog – boom, hit the driver on all the par 4’s and 5’s.
The one thing that surprised me the second time I played there, besides the great shape in was in so late in the year, was that it looked and felt just like the Pines course at the Sea View Marriott near Atlantic City – and that course costs over a hundred dollars. I played there with friends and for the money, it was lousy. No where, not on the tee boxes, or the scorecard (or web site) could you see what the hole looked like – not fair with so many doglegs – made for an unpleasant day on the course. So head over to Pinelands, save some money and put the savings into your favorite upscale on another day.

The 6th hole, par 5, played at its full length (581) is possibly the most difficult par 5 in South Jersey, including even the 15th at Pine Valley.
The 9th and the 17th are reachable par 5s, why do I keep making 7s? The 18th is a great finishing hole and there are lots of tricky par fours along the way, like 13 with its blind shot into the green. They have a nice driving range which a lot of public and even some private courses don’t offer, and the rangeballs are pretty decent, they find so many in the woods that are practically new. And, the staff are friendly.
You have to make your shots at Pinelands, and I feel the course has come around nicely lately. Playing out of bare patches is just golf, make the shot, stop whining, and take the opportunity to show what you’re made of. As a golfer.
